Ruth Sherman

Ruth Olga Sherman has been performing professionally all over the world for the past eight years. Ruth was an active company member in the world renowned Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Company, the oldest Jazz Company in the World, currently on the cover of Dance Magazine in the States. Here, she performed repertory by the top artist in the States (Davis Robertson, Christopher Huggins, Randy Duncan, Ron Dejesus, Sherry Zunker Dow). She also taught at Northwestern University the Junior and Senior dance majors course. As well, she taught at Northshore Academy, Giordano School and Master classes in Hawaii, Florida, Latvia, Germany, Mexico and Bruges. In Germany she performed with Schindowski Ballet in Germany for three Seasons. In Berlin she performed with the Sidi Larbi Eastman Company in the co-production of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Germany and La Scala in Milan, Italy.

Ruth teaches a highly technical class that awakens students’ minds to heightened awareness of the body. She begins with a choreographed warm up that includes classical Graham, Horton and Limon exercises, as well as Flying Low floorwork. From this strong base of strengthening the muscles in the body, we move across the floor using rhythm and space to expand the knowledge of the body, pulling from Countertechnique. Jumping is included to play with gravity and stamina. The class ends with a contemporary combination, using the building blocks from the beginning of class to explore and push the limits of the students’ expression. The most important element of the class is to have fun and enjoy the moving body and release of energy.
